FAQ About my Pottery Lessons!
✨Pottery Lesson FAQ✨
Here are some common questions I get about my pottery lessons! Hope this helps you when deciding what kind of course you might like to take!
1. Where are you located?
I am located in Newmarket, Ontario. I teach out of my commercial unit studio at 110 Pony Drive, Unit 16 in Newmarket. My studio is at the back of the plaza, just to the left of Cambodian Noodle King!
2. Which course should I sign up for? 2 week or 3 week?
The best way to decide what course to sign up for is to ask yourself what kind of experience you would like to have! Do you want a quick experience to try the pottery wheel and have some finished pieces, or do you want an in depth educational experience that will set you up to be able to tackle pottery on your own? The 2-week course is great for someone who just wants a one off experience and does not plan to do pottery again in the future. Perfect for date nights, or a night out with a friend or loved one to do something fun and new! The 3-week course is more suited for someone who thinks they might want to pick up pottery as a career or hobby. You will learn all of the steps necessary to create your own one of a kind pieces! This can also be a fun date night or night out with a friend or loved one, but it also comes with all of the education necessary to do pottery again in the future.
3. What will I learn to make in the class?
If you're a complete beginner and have never done pottery on the wheel before, you will likely make a bowl, mug or planter for your first time! Occasionally some students will make a vase but it is rare.
4. What if I am not a beginner, can I still benefit from your classes?
Absolutely!! I will cater my classes to your skill level. So if you have done pottery before and are more experienced, I will teach you more advanced techniques and have you make pieces that you have not managed to make on your own. For students who are not beginners, I like to teach skills like jars with lids, teapots, closed forms like luminaries or donuts, butter dishes, or throwing larger vases in two parts. I love teaching advanced students!
5. What if I want to do only one class? Or more than three classes?
That is totally fine! I can do one day wheel classes where I then trim and glaze your pots for you. I can also do more than three classes, up to six! I will cater the longer courses to meet your goals and make sure you get the most time as possible on the wheel. Just reach out to me if you want to arrange a longer or shorter course!
6. How many people can you teach at one time?
Although I only have two wheels at the moment, I teach classes up to 4 people! It can be really fun to come with a group of friends or family and get to watch them throw! Even though you take turns, you get the same amount of time on the wheel, the same amount of attention from me, and make the same amount of pieces!
7. Do you teach kids?
I do! I teach kids 7 years and older. Any child younger than 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 18 or older.
8. Can you connect me with resources if I decide I want to pursue pottery further?
Absolutely! Through my connections, I can tell you where to go for studio time, where to take your pieces for firing, where to buy supplies, and more!
9. Do you have any online resources so I can remember all of the steps you taught me?
I sure do! I have a youtube channel with throwing videos that cover all of the steps for beginner wheel throwing, from centring, pulling walls, trimming pottery and more! You can find the link through my "Find Me Everywhere!" button!
10. When can I expect to pick up my work after the glazing class?
Because I have a small kiln, you can often pick up your finished pieces the next day! On rare occasions where my large kiln is already firing, you will be able to pick up your pieces two days after your glazing class.
11. Will you post my work online?
Only if you give me permission! I will never share your work without your consent. Though I do love showing off my students awesome pieces, so I would be so happy if you allowed me to share yours too! No pressure at all though!
